Technical Translation Services Leadership
SH3 Inc. has had the same ownership and management since the company was founded over 30 years ago. That’s almost unheard of in the professional translation services industry. Credit for this goes to SH3’s three owners and leadership—Patrick Hubbard, Dennis Hartwig and Cathy Hubbard.
Patrick Hubbard
As the son of an international businessman who traveled extensively, Pat grew up around foreign languages and translation. After college, he served in the U.S Army as a Russian interpreter. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked six years as a translation manager for a Kansas City-based translation company before starting his own firm, SH3 Inc., in 1980.
Pat’s extensive background and expertise are essential to SH3’s success and reputation in the translation industry. He handles everything from designing technology systems to evaluating translators to measuring overall quality. He is also an accomplished translator, capable of translating highly technical documents from several different languages.
Dennis Hartwig
Typesetting English is one thing. Typesetting foreign languages is quite another. It takes a strong background in pre-press and print production, which Dennis acquired and honed at a Kansas City-based translation company before helping start SH3 in 1980.
Today Dennis provides leadership for SH3’s desktop publishing team, ensuring workflow and quality control and staying abreast of new software programs for the myriad of global languages.
Cathy Hubbard
For 30 years, SH3 has remained profitable and successful, thanks in large part to the leadership and management expertise of Cathy Hubbard. She oversees all internal operations, from personnel and production to finance. Cathy also provides hands-on management of translation projects from time to time, to assure that service and quality are a mainstay of SH3.
Jackie Smith
Jackie is in charge of marketing and sales. Together with her staff, she provides pricing and customer support for SH3′s professional translation clients. Jackie has been with SH3 for 20 years, during which time she has presented at many trade conferences and published articles in leading language translation journals. She is editor of SH3′s newsletter, the TransLetter.
John Lankston
John heads up the production team of six project managers. He has worked in the professional translation industry for nearly 20 years, coordinating translators and other language-related resources and implementing technology solutions.
